Why I Started Teaching POA Differently

When I first started teaching, I noticed a common pattern among almost every struggling student.

Many would tell me,

“I memorised everything, but I still don’t know how to answer the questions.”

Some believed they simply weren’t good at POA.

Others had already lost confidence after failing several tests.

As I worked with more students, I realised the problem wasn’t their ability.

The real issue was that they had been memorising procedures without understanding the logic behind them.

Once they understood why transactions were recorded in a certain way, everything started to make sense.

Suddenly, Debit and Credit no longer felt confusing.

Financial Statements became easier to prepare.

Students who once dreaded POA began answering questions with confidence.

That was the moment I realised my role wasn’t simply to teach accounting.

It was to help students discover that they were capable of understanding it.

My Background

Before becoming a full-time tutor for 13 years, I worked as an auditor after completing my Master of Finance.

While my professional background gave me a strong understanding of accounting, it also taught me something equally important.

Knowing accounting is very different from knowing how to teach it.

Over the years, I developed a teaching approach that breaks complex accounting concepts into simple, logical steps that secondary school students can understand with confidence.

Today, teaching is no longer just my profession—it is something I genuinely enjoy.

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student who once feared POA walk into an examination feeling prepared, confident and believing in themselves.
